What do you do?  

I have been working in Campion Insurance since 2007 - 10 years now!! I started off in our Kilkenny office, with little insurance experience.  During this time I trained and worked in the Commercial Department as part of the Sales Team.
In 2009, I transferred to our Portlaoise office, where I joined the Personal Lines team as a New Business Sales Agent. I gained valuable experience within this role, grew my insurance knowledge and managed to hit my target every month. My hard work was soon recognised & I got promoted to Team Leader. As TL I was over a team of 5 whom directly reported into me on a daily basis. I was selected by the company to participate in the  Campion Business School to aid me with the skills required to be a successful Team Leader. This was a very worthwhile course and really helped me develop within this role.
In 2014 I was once again offered a promotion and moved into a more managerial role within the Personal Lines Department.  This role involved working with the New Business and Renewal team in all 11 branches. This was a big step in my career and I was delighted with my progression within the company. I did a lot of work around quality, call scripting and problem solving.  I really enjoyed helping, encouraging & working with the teams on a daily basis.  

Describe your typical working day?  

Busy!! But I wouldn’t have it any other way.  

What are your qualifications?  

I received my CIP Certificate in 2010 and have successfully completed & received a Certificate in the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.   

What is the best thing about your job?  

Variety! – every day is different and as the saying goes “every day is a school day”, you never stop learning. I also like the morale within the Portlaoise office & the interaction between managers & staff.  I’m lucky enough to be in different offices with my role and this helps to build relationships with other staff outside of my base branch.   

And the biggest challenge?  

Insurance itself is a challenging industry; however, once you are prepared to put in the time and work, you can overcome these challenges.  I find it difficult to plan my day with my priorities constantly changing.  It was important for me to learn to balance my workload.    

What’s your next step in your Campion Career?  

I have recently changed roles again and am now working in Operations. This is a real change to my previous role and I am looking forward to exploring another aspect of the Company. I plan to continue to work hard to ensure I continue to strive within the Company.  Like my previous roles, I hope to further my training, knowledge and continue to progress within Campion Insurance.  

What advice would you give someone considering applying for a job with you?  

Campion Insurance is a great place to work, with local branches and great opportunities to progress within the Company. There is ample opportunity in an organisation of this size which allows individuals to find their own career path with the diversity of departments within Campion Insurance.
Once you are willing to learn, take all advice given and give it your all, there is no reason why you should not apply for a position here.

Important Assumptions

For the purpose of determining the term over which pension contributions are made, we have assumed your birthday was exactly six months ago.

If your target retirement age is lower than the age at which the Social Welfare pension commences (age 68 if you are born on/after 01/01/1961, age 67 if born before this date but on/after 01/01/1955 and age 66 if born before 01/01/1955) the calculations allow for funding for this gap, in addition to the cost of the annuity.

You are entitled to a full Social Welfare pension of €248.30 per week as at March 2019 which is assumed to increase by 2.5% per year.

You are saving for the difference between the Social Welfare pension and your target monthly income in retirement.

We have allowed for inflation of your target monthly income of 2.5% per annum between now and your retirement date.

Any other private pension provision you may have in place has not been taken into account.

Your monthly pension contribution increases by 2.5% each year up until your retirement age and is invested in a pension plan with an annual management charge of 1% and a 5% charge on each contribution, in line with the Standard PRSA fees and charges maximum limit.

A Gross Investment Return of 4.2% per annum on your savings. This is not a forecast because the value of your investment may grow at a faster or slower rate than assumed and the value of your investment may be expected to fall from time to time as well as rise.

On retirement you purchase an annuity which escalates at 1.5% each year, has a 5-year guarantee and is payable monthly in advance. The annuity rate assumes a post retirement interest rate of 2% per annum and no spouse’s pension. The actual annuity rate will depend on the selection of dependant’s pension, guaranteed period and the escalation rate, as well as interest rates prevailing when the annuity is purchased.
