Submit a Comprehensive Claim
If you have a benefit of comprehensive cover, you can proceed with a comprehensive claim if you wish. Should you claim comprehensively you are subject to the policy excess, the amount differs from policy to policy, and this can be found in your policy schedule. Whilst your comprehensive claim is ongoing your insurer would contact the third party’s Insurance Company to put them on notice that they intend to recover the claim outlay, this would include your policy excess and any other losses you may incur because of the claim. If there are other losses incurred which are not covered under your own policy, these would have to be recovered by you directly from the Third-Party Insurance Company.

Claim directly through the Third-Party Insurer
You can lodge a claim directly through the other parties Insurance Company. To do so, you would contact their insurers and provide your account of what happened to them. At this point they should be able to let you know if they are able to deal with your claim or if they need to investigate the matter further. Please note that should you wish to lodge a claim directly against the Third Party’s Insurers, your own insurer is not involved. Once liability has been accepted, please let us know so we can get your claim closed off with no effect on your insurance policy.
Referral to a solicitor
We can refer you to a specialist non-fault recovery solicitor, Hussey Fraser, who would pursue the claim on your behalf. Hussey Fraser offer a service for vehicle damage recovery to Campions clients when they have been involved in a non-fault accident. In most instances, Hussey Fraser’s services are free, however some fees would be applicable in the event there are any personal injury claims to process, all fees are transparent and agreed in advance. Depending on the severity of the incident, Contact Gardaí or other emergency services
You will need to obtain:
– Details from the third-party including phone number.
– Insurance details (We recommend taking a photo of the other party’s insurance disk).
– Vehicle registrations for all vehicles involved.
– Gardaí details (if they attended the scene).
– Take photos, of damage and location of the vehicles but only if safe to do so.
– Details (Name & Phone Number) of passengers in all vehicles.
– Details (Name & Phone Number) of any witnesses.
This will depend on your policy, whether you have a protected discount, and whether you were at fault for the accident.
If you’re involved in an accident and the other driver was at fault, you could claim for a courtesy car on their car insurance policy. If you were at fault, then it depends on your policy and the level of cover you have. While many comprehensive car insurance policies offer a courtesy car as standard, that’s not always the case and you can check your policy schedule and/or ask your insurers. If you have third-party, fire and theft car insurance, you’re less likely to get one.
Most policies have very little storage costs cover, often “reasonable costs only” and all will have a cap on cover. It is important that you make your insurers aware of the potential storage costs as soon as possible and/or make arrangements to have the vehicle moved to an area where no storage is being accrued. Most comprehensive policies have a provision for moving the vehicle.
